The Briggs & Stratton 493537S Filter Pre-Cleaner is a great addition to any Lawn Mower. The installation process is straightforward, and it fits perfectly between the plastic housing and the paper filter. This pre-cleaner works by catching dirt before it reaches the paper filter. It can be rinsed, but it must be completely dry before installing it. Users only need to replace the pre-cleaner if it appears too oily, and this should be done once a year based on the manufacturer's recommendations. The filter is 5.75X3.875" and should have the mesh side facing inward with the bent section down. Although the new version is slightly longer, it works. The 491588 air filter is the same as part number 491588S or 491588-S and is used on most 120000 series Briggs and Stratton engines, 3.5 TO 6.5 HP Quantum Engines.
