StarTech Dual-Bay USB 3.0 2.5/3.5in SATA HDD/SSD Dock, 5Gbps (SDOCK2U33)

The StarTech.com SDOCK2U33 USB 3.0 Dual Hard Drive Docking Station with UASP offers simple and reliable functionality, making it a trustworthy choice for users who need to dock two HDD/SSD drives. The clean lines and well-made design add to its appeal. However, it is important to note that this docking station does not have built-in cloning functionality, contrary to what the title suggests. Users will need additional software to perform cloning tasks. Additionally, the transfer speeds are slower compared to a HDD plugged in via a USB 3.0 single adapter, which may be disappointing for users who were expecting improved data transfer speeds. The unit's Construction is relatively rough-looking, with ridged plastic that appears to be made on a low budget. Although it should withstand gentle use, it may not hold up well to rough handling. Furthermore, despite the description stating that there are independent power buttons for each drive, there is only one power button, meaning both drives must be turned off at the same time. The lack of proper independent hot swap support is another drawback, as the instructions explicitly state not to remove one drive if the other is transmitting/receiving data. Overall, while the StarTech.com SDOCK2U33 docking station serves its primary purpose of docking four drives, it falls short of expectations. It is priced higher than it should be Considering its limitations, and for the price, the addition of disk cloning functionality would have been appreciated.
